I want to take this opportunity to share with you some observations, impressions, and encounters. I have had the highest privilege of conducting small group lunches with Middle School students and separate lunches with Upper School students. On a consistent basis, I ask, “What has added the greatest value to your Mount Vernon experience?” Their overwhelming response can be summed up, “We know that our teachers truly care about our success.” Where else? More than a grade, project, or assignment, MVPS teachers love students. From this flows compassion, vision, accountability, and leadership. In response to the touching images from Haiti, the School launched the student-driven Project Haiti initiatiave. Students in PS-12 raised over $7,500. Where else? I overheard a parent one day mentioning to a staff member that she took a “vacation day” at work to volunteer at the School. Where else? At the Honor Roll and Head of School ceremony reflecting the fall semester, students and parents gave the faculty a standing ovation for their devotion to Mount Vernon. Where else?
