This day is finally here.  We have been looking forward to the first day of school all summer.  Thanks to you and our staff, this has been a great start to the school year.  If you did not have the opportunity to attend the Lower School Convocation and the Glenn Campus Convocation, you missed a great event.  Seeing our students gather together as a corporate body was extremely meaningful to me as the new Head of School.  The talent, intellect, and creativity represented by our students make this the best school in the city of Atlanta and beyond.

The following is an excerpt from Convocation:

The 2009-2010 school year at Mount Vernon is about a call to give back.  In Luke 12:48, Christ sets an expectation, “To whom much is given, much will be required.”  Looking around this morning, it is easy to recognize the provision of God’s grace and goodness on Mount Vernon Presbyterian School.  As students, you have the best faculty, facilities, academic resources, and a safe place to learn, to grow spiritually, and to have fun.  Yet, there are many students around the world having a very different experience on their first day of school.  To whom much is given, much is required.  A call to give back requires you to reach beyond the walls of our campus.  Give back to other people found in other parts of the globe, give back to those under pressure right here in the United States, give back to your city, and give back to your neighbor.  Giving back is not an option.

This is one of the most exciting times in the School’s history.  Together, we are going to make an impact on the School like no one has seen in previous years.  We have the opportunity to shape our school in ways that would not be possible anywhere else.  Have a great year!

Spread the great news!
